How to Fish weapon attachments guide: all 7 mods, the Island 2 shop, why you must hold the gun, the $900 Fully Equipped build, and what 1.0.11 removed.
How to Fish Weapon Attachments: All 7, Where to Buy Them and What Changed
There are 7 weapon attachments in How to Fish and the attachment shop starts stocking them from Island 2. Before you can buy anything you have to hold the gun you want to mod — the shop reads the weapon in your hands. Prices scale with the weapon, not the attachment, and not every mod fits every gun. Patch 1.0.11 removed the Iron Sight purchase entry and blocked swapping a Suppressor straight into a Compensator slot.
The quick list:
- Six mods are currently purchasable; Iron Sight is legacy and only works if you already own one
- Laser Sight unlocks first, on Island 2; the rest arrive across Islands 3 and 4
- Recoil is the real decision: control comes from the Compensator (moderate reduction) or the Suppressor (significant reduction)
- The cheapest route to the Fully Equipped achievement is a Pistol build at roughly $900 in community-reported prices
Every Weapon Attachment in How to Fish
| Attachment | Unlocks on | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Laser Sight | Island 2 | Projects a laser for aiming without shouldering the weapon |
| Extended Mag | Island 3 | Larger magazine, usable on Pistol, SMG, Sniper Rifle and Assault Rifle |
| Red Dot Sight | Island 3 | Red dot optic for faster target acquisition |
| Compensator | Island 3 | Moderately reduces recoil |
| Sniper Scope | Island 4 | Magnified optic for long-range shots |
| Suppressor | Island 4 | Significantly reduces recoil |
| Iron Sight | Island 3 | Removed from shops in 1.0.11; copies already owned still function |
That is the complete list. It is a small system by design: you are not building a Call of Duty loadout, you are putting one optic, one magazine and one recoil device on a gun whose base stats already decide most fights.

Where to Buy Attachments
Hold the Weapon First
This rule wastes the most player time. Walk in with the gun stowed and the attachment prompt is simply absent. Equip the weapon so it is the actively held item, then approach the wall; the shop then lists the mods that weapon accepts, which is why two players at the same wall can see different stock.
Prices Follow the Weapon
Attachment cost is not a flat per-item number. The same optic costs more on a $3,800 Sniper Rifle than on a $50 Pistol, which makes shopping a per-gun decision rather than a list you complete once. The game shows no public price table, so check the wall with the target weapon equipped and decide from the number in front of you.
The Shop Opens on Island 2
Island 1 has no attachment vendor. The first wall appears on Island 2, and every later island adds a tier: Extended Mag, Red Dot Sight and Compensator on Island 3, then Sniper Scope and Suppressor on Island 4. If you are still on the lighthouse island, buy the shotgun first.
A mod that exists in the game can still be missing from your shop because you have not reached the island that sells it. Damage upgrades follow the same rule and show Maxed for this island at the local ceiling — the game telling you to sail rather than grind.
What Patch 1.0.11 Changed
The 1.0.11 update is the reason this page exists in its current form. Two attachment-related changes shipped in it:
- The Iron Sight purchase entry was removed. You can no longer buy one. If you already had an Iron Sight on a gun before the patch, it still works — a legacy item, not a deleted one. Guides that still list Iron Sight as a normal Island 3 purchase are out of date.
- A Suppressor can no longer be downgraded into a Compensator. Swapping the two in place is blocked and the game reports that the attachment cannot be applied; you have to detach the existing mod first. Treat the two as a permanent commitment per gun unless you are willing to eat the removal step.
The same patch added toggle-aim, toggle-sprint, hold-to-attack and toggle-nameplate options, plus a save-corruption check with automatic backups, and made the game Steam Deck Verified and GeForce NOW playable.
Official source: How to Fish patch notes on Steam — the 1.0.11 entry documents the Iron Sight removal and the Suppressor restriction. Version history is mirrored on SteamDB, and the base game and supported platforms are listed on the Steam store page.
Compensator vs Suppressor: The Recoil Decision
Both mods do the same job at different strengths:
| Compensator | Suppressor | |
|---|---|---|
| Unlocks | Island 3 | Island 4 |
| Recoil reduction | Moderate | Significant |
| Cost | Varies by weapon | Varies by weapon |
| Swap restriction | Cannot be swapped in over a Suppressor (1.0.11) | Cannot be downgraded to a Compensator (1.0.11) |
The practical read: if the SMG is your main gun and you can reach Island 4, the Suppressor is the end state for recoil. The Compensator is the Island 3 placeholder you buy while the Suppressor is still two islands away, and it is a decent one — moderate recoil reduction on a 24 to 70 damage SMG decides whether a burst lands or goes to the sky.
What it is not is a cheap path to a Suppressor. Since 1.0.11 blocks the direct swap, putting one on a gun you plan to kit out fully means paying twice: once for the mod and once for the removal. Wait for the better mod on a keeper; take the Compensator on a throwaway Pistol.
Compatibility: What Fits What
The system is narrower than it looks:
- Not every attachment fits every weapon. The game simply does not offer incompatible mods at the shop wall, so a missing mod usually means incompatibility rather than a bug.
- Extended Mag is confirmed for Pistol, SMG, Sniper Rifle and Assault Rifle. It is not a universal magazine.
- Optics are per-gun too. A Sniper Scope on a shotgun does not exist in this game.
- You can only hold one gun at a time, so multi-gun modding means a walk back to the wall for each weapon.
- The shop wall is the source of truth: if the prompt is there, you can attach it.

The Cheapest Fully Equipped Build
The Fully Equipped achievement asks you to fill every attachment slot on a single gun. On a Sniper Rifle or Assault Rifle that is expensive. On the cheapest gun that takes a full set, it is not:
| Slot | Mod | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Optic | Laser Sight | Island 2, available long before the rest |
| Optic | Red Dot Sight | Island 3 |
| Recoil | Compensator | Island 3 |
| Magazine | Extended Mag | Island 3 |
Load a $50 Pistol with Laser Sight, Red Dot Sight, Compensator and Extended Mag and the community-reported total lands around $900 — the whole achievement for about the price of one and a half Shotguns. That is why the Pistol is worth keeping long after it stops being viable. The full list is in the all achievements guide.
Four mods on a $50 Pistol is the cheapest known route to Fully Equipped. Do not try to earn it on an Assault Rifle — the gun costs $20,000 on its own and the attachment prices scale with it.
What to Attach First on an SMG
For most players the $650 SMG is the mid-game main gun: it fires fast, its damage ladder runs from 24 to 70, and it takes attachments better than the Pistol. The order that pays off:
- Recoil control first. A Compensator on Island 3, upgraded to a Suppressor on Island 4 if you keep the gun. Recoil is what stops you converting ammo into damage on a moving boss.
- Extended Mag second. More rounds between reloads matters most against long health bars — the Pufferfish alone sits at 18,000 HP with 34 contact damage, and every reload is a window where it closes distance.
- Optic third. Red Dot and Laser Sight make targets easier to track — a comfort upgrade rather than a damage one.
- Sniper Scope last, and only on a sniper. It is for the Island 4 range game, not run-and-gun bosses.
The best weapon guide covers which gun deserves that investment, and the weapons unlock guide shows when each one is purchasable.
Attachments or Damage Upgrades?
These compete for the same wallet, and they do different things:
| Spend | What it changes | Rough scale |
|---|---|---|
| Attachments | Handling, recoil, magazine size, aim | The Pistol full set is about $900 |
| Weapon damage tiers | Raw damage output | Nonlinear; the Assault Rifle's last two tiers cost $5,125 and $5,800, the Pistol's last tier $9,100 |
| A new weapon | Everything at once | Pistol $50, SMG $650, Sniper $3,800, Assault Rifle $20,000 |
Attachments are cheap relative to weapons and upgrades, but they are multipliers on a gun you already own rather than replacements for it. A Compensator on a 25-damage Pistol gives you a comfortable 25-damage Pistol, not an SMG. Buy the gun, then the mods, then the damage tiers. The upgrades guide covers the full priority order, including boat and inventory upgrades.
Since 1.0.10, weapons and tools left on a grill pick up the cooked state and lose value; dunking them in water washes it off again. If a modded gun looks wrong in the inspect readout, check cook status before blaming the attachment.
FAQ
What are all the attachments in How to Fish?
Seven: Laser Sight, Extended Mag, Red Dot Sight, Compensator, Sniper Scope, Suppressor and Iron Sight. Only six are still purchasable — 1.0.11 removed the Iron Sight entry but left existing copies functional.
Where do I buy weapon attachments?
From the attachment wall, starting on Island 2, with more mods on Islands 3 and 4. You must hold the weapon you want to modify, because the shop only shows compatible mods for the gun in your hands.
Why can't I attach the scope?
Three usual causes: you are not holding the weapon, the scope is not compatible with that gun, or you are swapping a Suppressor and Compensator directly, which 1.0.11 blocks. Detach the current mod first.
Is the suppressor better than the compensator?
For recoil, yes — the Suppressor significantly reduces it and the Compensator moderately reduces it. The trade-off is timing: Compensator on Island 3, Suppressor on Island 4, and since 1.0.11 you cannot swap one for the other in place.
How much does the Fully Equipped achievement cost?
A $50 Pistol with Laser Sight, Red Dot Sight, Compensator and Extended Mag runs about $900 in community-reported prices. It is the cheapest known route; the same mods cost far more on a $3,800 Sniper Rifle or a $20,000 Assault Rifle because prices scale with the weapon.
