The full How to Fish database: 54 creatures with HP and sell value, 12 boss-tier fights, 7 weapons, 18 baits and the 5-island unlock chain.
How to Fish Wiki: Every Creature, Boss, Weapon and Bait
There is no official How to Fish wiki. Dazed Games shipped the game with no encyclopedia and no stat screen, so the numbers players search for only exist inside the build. This is our stand-in for patch 1.0.12, checked on 2026-09-22: 54 creature entries, 12 boss stat blocks, 7 weapons, 18 baits, 5 islands.
Every figure is a game value, not a community estimate. Where nothing is confirmed, this page says so.

Creature Database: All 43 Regular Species
Sorted by base sell value. HP is damage absorbed, base sell is the pre-multiplier price, contact damage is what it deals to you.

| Creature | HP | Base sell | Contact damage | Endangered |

| Piranha | 5 | $4 | 15 | No |
| Brown Crab | 15 | $3 | 0 | No |
| Clam | — | $1 | 0 | No |
Three patterns matter. The value curve is a cliff: five regular species clear $1,000, the next drops to $380, and 17 sit under $20. Cheap is not harmless — the 5 HP Piranha deals 15 contact damage and the $5 Gar deals 8 — and Clam, Leech and Foot Snail carry no HP because they are pickups, not fights. Endangered status ignores price too: Bowlfish, Seahorse and Needlefish all carry the flag.
Boss Database: All 12 Boss-Tier Fights
The files flag 11 creatures as boss type. Bing Bong is the twelfth boss-tier fight: it carries the ordinary endangered flag, yet has 2,000 HP, a 300-second timer and the hardest contact hit in the game. Story bosses gate islands; side bosses patrol open water.
| Boss | Tier | HP | Base sell | Contact damage | Escape timer | Summon |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spider Crab | Story | 750 | $10,000 | 0 | 180 s | Empty Beer Can ($8) |
| The Old Pike | Side | 1,000 | $80 | 25 | 180 s | Beginner Boss Lure ($40) |
| Sunfish | Side | 1,500 | $50 | 0 | 180 s | Beginner Boss Lure ($40) |
| Bing Bong | Secret | 2,000 | $300 | 75 | 300 s | Coconut ($350) |
| Blue Shark | Side | 2,300 | $300 | 36 | 180 s | Standard Boss Lure ($280) |
| Giant Piranha | Story | 2,500 | $11,000 | 32 | 300 s | Leech Bait ($1) |
| Tuna | Side | 6,000 | $2,000 | 40 | 180 s | Professional Boss Lure ($1,200) |
| Goblin Shark | Side | 7,500 | $6,200 | 25 | 180 s | Scientific Boss Lure ($5,800) |
| Albatross | Story | 7,800 | $13,000 | 0 | 300 s | No lure entry |
| Pufferfish | Story | 18,000 | $12,000 | 34 | 300 s | Carrot ($100) |
| Bowhead Whale | Side | 20,000 | $8,000 | 28 | 180 s | Fish Bucket (not sold) |
| Mutated Bowhead Whale | Story | 38,000 | $15,000 | 36 | 300 s | No lure entry |
The story chain spans 50.7x HP, from the Spider Crab's 750 to the whale's 38,000, but payout does not follow it: the Spider Crab returns $13.33 per HP, the Pufferfish $0.67 and the whale $0.39. All twelve bosses hold 107,350 HP; the five gate bosses are 67,050 of it.
Contact damage decides your loadout, not HP. Bing Bong hits for 75 per touch, more than double the final whale's 36.
Weapon Database: All 7 Weapons
Prices are purchase cost, resale is shop payout, cost to max includes every upgrade.

| Weapon | Cost | Resale | Damage first | Damage last | Tiers | Cost to max |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brass Knuckles | $24 | $4 | 5 | 60 | 16 | $64,302 |
| Knife | $45 | $20 | 16 | 120 | 16 | $76,777 |
| Pistol | $50 | $20 | 25 | 160 | 13 | $26,905 |
| Shotgun | $150 | $60 | 3 | 28 | 13 | $26,690 |
| SMG | $650 | $300 | 24 | 70 | 13 | $22,119 |
| Sniper Rifle | $3,800 | $1,800 | 200 | 500 | 13 | $39,549 |
| Assault Rifle | $20,000 | $9,000 | 40 | 100 | 13 | $50,550 |
Shotgun damage is per pellet, so its 3 base and 28 final figures multiply by the spread. Shops refund roughly half of what you paid — 45% on the Assault Rifle, 47% on the Sniper, but only 17% on Brass Knuckles, whose upgrade tree is the second priciest in the game. Per point of final damage the Sniper is the cheapest endgame buy at about $79, against $505 for the Assault Rifle and $1,072 for Brass Knuckles. Per-island stock: weapons unlock guide; verdicts: best weapon guide.
Bait Database: All 18 Entries
Bite window is how long a catch takes once something commits. A 100% pool is that bait's only possible creature, which makes it a summon key rather than fishing gear.
| Bait | Cost | Bite window | Catch pool |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ham | $0 | 1-4 s | Brown Crab 55.6%, Shrimp 44.4% |
| French Fry | $0 | 2-3 s | Mackerel 40%, Gar 40%, Pike 20% |
| Hot Dog | $1 | 1-3 s | Rock Crab 76.9%, Lobster 23.1% |
| Beginner Lure | $3 | 1-3 s | 9 species, best odds 17.5% |
| Standard Lure | $15 | 1-2.5 s | 10 species, best odds 17.4% |
| Professional Lure | $50 | 1-2 s | 12 species, best odds 12.8% |
| Scientific Lure | $500 | 0.75-1.5 s | 5 species, best odds 25% |
| Empty Beer Can | $8 | 2-4 s | Spider Crab 100% |
| Leech Bait | $1 | 1-3 s | Giant Piranha 100% |
| Carrot | $100 | 1-2.5 s | Pufferfish 100% |
| Coconut | $350 | 1-2.5 s | Bing Bong 100% |
| Standard Boss Lure | $280 | 1-2.5 s | Blue Shark 100% |
| Professional Boss Lure | $1,200 | 1-2 s | Tuna 100% |
| Scientific Boss Lure | $5,800 | 0.75-1.5 s | Goblin Shark 100% |
| Fish Bucket | $0 | 2-3 s | Bowhead Whale 100% |
| Beginner Boss Lure | $40 | 1-3 s | Sunfish 50%, The Old Pike 50% |
| Nothing | $0 | 1-3 s | Cod 100% |
| Testing | $0 | 0-0 s | Dripper 100% |
The two bottom rows are internal entries: casting with nothing equipped lands a Cod, and Testing is a leftover that instantly produces a Dripper. Ham, French Fry and Hot Dog are edible items that double as lines, so the $1 Hot Dog is the cheapest reliable crab bait. Regular tiers lose less bait as they climb (40% on Hot Dogs, then 35/30/25/20%), while boss baits are consumed every use. Full per-species weights: bait guide.
Boss Summon Key: Which Bait Forces Which Boss
| Bait | Cost | Summons | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Leech Bait | $1 | Giant Piranha | Cheapest boss summon |
| Empty Beer Can | $8 | Spider Crab | Keeper quest reward |
| Beginner Boss Lure | $40 | Sunfish or The Old Pike | Coin flip |
| Carrot | $100 | Pufferfish | No side entries |
| Standard Boss Lure | $280 | Blue Shark | Also 1.4% on Standard Lure |
| Coconut | $350 | Bing Bong | Coconut tree, not a shop |
| Professional Boss Lure | $1,200 | Tuna | Also 1.3% on Professional Lure |
| Scientific Boss Lure | $5,800 | Goblin Shark | Fastest bite window |
| Fish Bucket | Not sold | Bowhead Whale | Quest and event item |
Ten of the twelve sit in a boss-lure pool: eight have a guaranteed 100% line, while the Sunfish and The Old Pike share one coin flip. The Albatross and Mutated Bowhead Whale have no lure entry and come from the story chain. Mechanics: boss guide.
Bosses are re-fightable, but baits are not refundable. Selling a boss trophy before hand-in stalls the island chain until you re-summon the boss, so treat every uniquely named drop as a quest item.
Island Unlock Chain: All 5 Islands
| # | Island | Gate boss | Boss HP | Hand-in unlocks | Shop tier added |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Lighthouse | Spider Crab | 750 | Boat keys | No guns; melee only |
| 2 | Forest | Giant Piranha | 2,500 | Island 3 coordinates | Pistol ($50), Shotgun ($150) |
| 3 | Desert | Pufferfish | 18,000 | Island 4 access | SMG ($650) |
| 4 | Rocks | Albatross | 7,800 | Volcano radar coordinates | Sniper Rifle ($3,800) |
| 5 | Military Volcano | Mutated Bowhead Whale | 38,000 | Story finale | Assault Rifle ($20,000) |
Each island's shop tier unlocks with the previous island's trophy hand-in, so weapon and map progression are one chain, with no skip. Routing is in the all islands guide and the boat keys in the radar guide.
The data holds no per-island spawn assignments, so a species-by-island list here would be a guess. Water-level coverage: fish locations guide.
Endangered Species: The 9 Flagged Entries
| Creature | Base sell | HP | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pufferfish | $12,000 | 18,000 | Boss |
| Superdwarf Fish | $1,700 | 120 | Top regular |
| Oarfish | $1,450 | 1,000 | Deep water |
| Dripper | $380 | 350 | Testing target |
| Voxel Fish | $340 | 380 | Rare spawn |
| Bing Bong | $300 | 2,000 | Boss-tier |
| Bowlfish | $150 | 160 | Completion only |
| Seahorse | $100 | 350 | Lure tiers |
| Needlefish | $60 | 130 | Cheapest |
Endangered status is a completion flag, not a price tier: three of the nine sell for $150 or less and the cheapest is $60, so selling one costs a quest step rather than a paycheck. Locations and hand-ins: endangered creatures page; completion route: Fishipedia checklist.
How Sell Value Is Actually Calculated
| Cook state | Multiplier | Effect on a $1,000 base catch |
|---|---|---|
| Raw | 1.0x | $1,000 |
| Cooked | 1.5x | $1,500 |
| Burnt | 0.1x | $100 |
Payout is base value times a weight roll, times the cook multiplier, times any bet and kill-score multipliers. The weight roll is Gaussian, centred on 1.0, with a standard deviation of 0.15 and a 0.25-1.75 clamp.
So a heavy cooked catch pays 2.625x base and a light burnt one 0.025x — a 105x spread on the same fish. Hence the grill focus in the money farming guide, and the weight and cook-state fields in the fish value calculator.
Achievements, Quests and Completion
Progress lives in the achievements guide, the quests and missions guide and the Fishipedia checklist, which logs all 54 entries. Colour variants: rare fish variants.
FAQ
Is there an official How to Fish wiki?
No. Dazed Games published none, and the two fan Fandom wikis are empty shells. This page is our substitute.
How many fish are in How to Fish?
54 entries: 43 regular species, 11 boss-flagged creatures and Bing Bong as a twelfth boss-tier fight. Nine carry the endangered flag.
What is the most expensive fish in How to Fish?
The Pufferfish at $12,000 is the highest-value catchable creature. The Albatross ($13,000) and Mutated Bowhead Whale ($15,000) sell higher but exist only as boss fights.
What bait summons each boss?
See the summon key above: Leech Bait at $1 is the cheapest, the Scientific Boss Lure at $5,800 the priciest shop bait, and the Fish Bucket is quest-only.
Is the Sunfish worth fighting?
No: 1,500 HP for $50 is 3 cents of value per point of damage. Catch one for the log, then stop.
